DOXYCYLINE
Trade name: Doxypal, Doxypharm.
Class:
Antibiotics, tetracycline.
Action:
Inhibit protein synthesis.
Uses:
1. Treatment of trachoma and acute intestinal amebiasis.
2. Prophylaxis of plaque after exposure.
3. Urethritis due to mycoplasm.
4. Vaginitis.
Dosage:
First day 100mg q 12hours, followed by 1tab a day.
Contraindication:
1. Hypersensitivity.
2. During tooth development stage.
Side effects:
N & V, diarrhea, headache, HTN, colitis, hemolytic anemia.
Nursing consideration:
Don't give with antacid, milk, or any product that contains Ca, Zn, Al, Mg, and ferrus salt. "These products decrease absorption of drug".
