DILTAZEM

Class:
1. Calcium channel blocker
2. Antianginal
3. Antihypertensive.
Action:
Inhibition the influx of Ca via cell membrane resulting in a depression of automatically and conduction velocity both smooth & cardiac muscles.
Uses:
1. Angina pectoris due to coronary artery spasm.
2. Essential HTN.
Dosage:
30mg qid before meals and at bed time.
Contraindication:
1. MI.
2. Hypotension.
3. pulmonary congestive
Side effects:
AV block, bradycardia, CHF, and hypotension.
Nursing consideration:
1. Drug should be taken on an empty stomach.
2. Carry sublingual tabs in a glass bottle, tightly capped.
3. Takes sublingual tabs while sitting to avoid postural hypotension.
