INDICATION
An antibiotic used for the treatment of various infectious diseases
SIDE EFFECTS
A dark or discolored tongue is most common. Anemia, decrease blood platelets and white blood cells, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, hives, and hypersensitivity. Rare effects include: unexplained bleeding or bruising, weakness, sore throat, fever, abdominal cramps, and seizures
INTERACTIONS and PRECAUTIONS
[Use with beta-blockers can increase risk of anaphylaxis
Use with oral contraceptives can impair contraceptive effectiveness
Use with calcium supplements can decrease penicillins effect. Use with chloramphenicol can decrease the effect of both drugs
Use with cholestyramine may decrease penicillin effect
Use with colestipol may decrease penicillin effect
Use with erythromycins or tetracyclines may decrease the effect of both drugs
Use with probenecid can increase penicillin effect
